India has condemned the attack on Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace off the coast of Oman, after the ship was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, leaving 12 crew members injured, including 11 Indian nationals.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the vessel had 19 crew members on board, of whom 17 were Indian nationals.
In a statement, the MEA said the vessel, identified as MT On Peace (IMO 9893204), was attacked earlier in the day while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It said 12 crew members were injured, including 11 Indians.
With the assistance of Omani authorities, the injured crew members were evacuated and taken to Khasab, Oman, where they are receiving medical treatment. The MEA thanked the Omani authorities for their support.
India said the continuing attacks on shipping in the region were a matter of “deep concern” and called for an immediate end to such incidents in the interest of regional peace and stability.
The MEA stressed that attacks targeting commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, while navigation and commercial activity through international waterways should be restored at the earliest.
The latest incident comes days after five Indian nationals aboard Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III were rescued after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on October 3.
The Indian Embassy in Oman said its mission had coordinated the rescue operation and confirmed that all five Indian nationals aboard MT Kazimah III were safely brought ashore.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and is a crucial global energy corridor. It carries substantial oil and liquefied natural gas exports from major Gulf producers to international markets.
