Celebrity chef and actor Ranveer Brar has opened up about his close bond with comedian-actor Zakir Khan, saying their shared small-town roots and ambition are what connect them.
Speaking to IANS during the promotions of his streaming quiz show Yess Chef in Mumbai’s Andheri West, Brar recalled his association with Zakir, who appeared in the premiere episode of the show.
“See, we both come from different places. But the connection between the two of us is like the hungry children of small towns. Zakir is from Indore, I am from Lucknow. And the hunger and persistence of the children of a small town connects us,” Brar said.
He added that he shares a warm relationship with Zakir’s family and expressed affection for his parents.
“Last night, I got a call from Zakir’s father before going to bed at 11:15 pm. He told me that he liked me a lot. He wished me well. He said that I have made such a good show,” Brar said.
Describing the relationship as akin to a family bond, he added, “Where there is an unconditional support and love. And I consider myself fortunate to have friends like him.”
Brar also spoke about food safety and the importance of buying fresh produce from local markets. He said people should continue visiting vegetable markets instead of relying entirely on quick-commerce platforms.
“I believe that first of all, do your own shopping from local markets. That is very important if we talk about freshness,” he said, adding that the popularity of 10-minute delivery apps has changed shopping habits.
He suggested that people should use quick-delivery services mainly for emergencies and prepare only as much food as needed to reduce leftovers and clutter in refrigerators.
“The refrigerator is equivalent to the tension in the mind,” Brar said.
