Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, S. Malvinder Singh Kang, on Tuesday directed officials to ensure timely and transparent implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes and development projects so that eligible beneficiaries receive government assistance without delay.
Chairing a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the District Administrative Complex in SAS Nagar, Kang reviewed the progress of various welfare schemes and ongoing development works in the district. He stressed close coordination among departments, regular monitoring and accountability in the implementation of projects.
Reviewing MPLAD works, Kang was informed that 101 projects worth Rs 329.23 lakh have been sanctioned in the district. These include works related to cremation grounds, public libraries, community and cultural buildings, playgrounds, gym equipment, parks, CCTV systems and other public facilities. He directed officials to complete pending works within the prescribed timelines and ensure proper utilisation of funds.
The MP also reviewed the Jal Jeevan Mission, under which 82,024 households in the district have been provided piped drinking water connections. Progress under the Swachh Bharat Mission, PMAY (Urban and Rural), PM SVANidhi, MGNREGA/VB-G RAM G, health, education, women and child development and other Central schemes was also assessed.
Kang directed the Agriculture Department to take action against distributors and retailers allegedly selling medicines along with urea and fertilisers in violation of prescribed norms. He also called for greater promotion of organic farming, food processing and horticulture schemes to help increase farmers’ incomes.
He directed urban local bodies to strengthen sanitation and scientific solid waste management and stressed improved infrastructure and cleanliness in government schools and health institutions. The MP also reviewed staffing, vacant posts, equipment and basic facilities in government hospitals.
Kang emphasised that no eligible person should be deprived of the benefits of government schemes and called for transparent, effective and accountable implementation.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal assured the MP that departments would undertake time-bound action on the issues discussed and ensure effective implementation of welfare and development programmes.
The meeting was attended by Dera Bassi MLA S. Kuljit Singh Randhawa, Municipal Corporation Commissioner S. Sundeep Singh Garha, ADC (Urban Development) S. Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, ADC (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary, SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur and senior officers of various departments.
