China on Tuesday said it was willing to work with India to enhance understanding, resolve differences and overcome obstacles, describing the two countries as important neighbours and major developing economies.
The remarks came during the 25th round of the Special Representatives’ talks on the India-China Boundary Question in Beijing, co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The meeting was scheduled as part of the mechanism established for addressing the boundary issue and broader bilateral concerns.
Wang said the healthy and stable development of China-India relations was in the fundamental interests of both peoples and carried significance beyond the bilateral relationship.
He said China was ready to work with India from a strategic and long-term perspective to strengthen communication, enhance understanding, eliminate differences and overcome obstacles, while seeking to be a “good-neighbourly and friendly” partner.
Wang also referred to the meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan and Tianjin, saying the two sides had reached important understandings that had helped chart the course for improving bilateral relations.
Doval, meanwhile, emphasised the importance of building a stable, predictable and forward-looking relationship between India and China. He noted that the two countries’ leaders had provided guidance for the development of bilateral ties and stressed that a stable relationship served the interests of both peoples.
The two sides discussed the boundary question, including border demarcation, border management and mechanisms for maintaining peace and tranquillity along the frontier. They also exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern.
The talks follow the 36th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs held in New Delhi on August 6, where both sides agreed to maintain diplomatic and military communication and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the border areas.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the two sides agreed to continue handling the boundary issue through dialogue and consultation and to jointly maintain peace and tranquillity along the border. They also agreed to hold the 26th round of Special Representatives’ talks in India in 2027.
The latest meeting builds on the understandings reached during the 24th round of talks in 2025, which included steps on boundary delimitation, border management, de-escalation and cross-border cooperation.
