CPI-M General Secretary M.A. Baby on Tuesday claimed that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is losing public support and that recent student movements and electoral setbacks indicate that its “last days” are being counted.
Speaking to the media after arriving in Tripura, Baby cited protests over examination-related issues, including NEET, and the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as signs of growing public dissatisfaction with the Centre.
He said organisations including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and All India Students’ Association (AISA), along with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), played an important role in the recent student movement in Delhi and other parts of the country.
Baby also referred to the BJP’s defeat in the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, describing it as another significant political development. He noted that the constituency had been a BJP stronghold for three decades and was vacated by party president Nitin Nabin.
“The RSS-controlled BJP-led government at the Centre is losing the support of the masses,” Baby claimed.
He said the student movement and developments surrounding the education ministry represented one setback, while the Bankipur result was another. He argued that movements by workers, farmers, students and young people, coupled with electoral setbacks for the BJP, would create greater political space for the Left.
“Movements by workers, farmers, students and youths across the country, along with the BJP’s recent electoral setbacks, prove that the last days of the Modi government are approaching. The role of the Left parties in providing political resistance will increase further,” he said.
Baby held discussions with members of the CPI-M state secretariat soon after arriving in Tripura and is scheduled to attend a meeting of the party’s state committee.
His visit, his second to Tripura in two months, comes ahead of elections to Village Committees in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), as well as urban local body elections across the state.
