A 37-year-old man died on Tuesday after allegedly jumping from the fourth-floor poolside of the Le Meridien Hotel in central Delhi, police said.
The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. following a PCR call about a person having jumped from the hotel’s fourth-floor poolside. The deceased was identified as Divij Maria, a resident of New Delhi.
Maria was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after the incident, where doctors declared him brought dead. A crime team inspected the spot and collected evidence as part of the preliminary investigation. His body has been preserved for post-mortem examination.
According to preliminary police inquiry, Maria had left his job at a Gurugram-based company around six months ago and had been undergoing treatment for depression for the past few months. He was married, police said.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials are examining Maria’s movements before the incident and other relevant details. His family is also being contacted as part of the inquiry.
Police have not indicated any other immediate circumstance behind the death, and the investigation is continuing. A post-mortem examination is expected to provide further information.
