Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak has given in-principle approval for procuring laptops for Inspector cadre officers, along with conveyance and infrastructure allowances, in a move aimed at strengthening the department’s field-level functioning.
The approvals were announced during an interaction with the Inspector Union of the department. Kataruchak said providing laptops would help inspectors perform their duties with greater precision and transparency, describing them as the department’s frontline functionaries at the grassroots level.
He said the initiative was particularly significant because inspectors regularly interact with farmers, arhtiyas and other stakeholders involved in the procurement process.
The minister also approved a conveyance allowance for inspectors to facilitate their visits to mandis and enable them to assess ground-level conditions, particularly during procurement operations.
Emphasising the need for stronger infrastructure for the smooth and efficient functioning of departmental offices, Kataruchak also approved an infrastructure allowance. The measure, he said, would enable inspectors to arrange quality furniture for their offices and create a better working environment.
The minister directed the inspectors to ensure that foodgrains meant for economically weaker sections of society reached the intended beneficiaries without fail. He made it clear that any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
Those present at the meeting included Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Rahul Tewari; Director Varinder Kumar Sharma; Additional Managing Director, PUNGRAIN, Kamal Kumar Garg; and Additional Directors Dr Anjuman Bhaskar and Ajayveer Singh Sarao.
