Raksha Bandhan Trade Expected to Cross Rs 30,000 Crore This Year: CAIT

New Delhi, August 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Retail markets across India are witnessing a sharp rise in consumer activity ahead of Raksha Bandhan, with festival-related business expected to cross Rs 30,000 crore this year, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

CAIT National Secretary General and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said the rakhi segment alone is estimated to generate around Rs 25,000 crore, with Delhi accounting for nearly Rs 4,000 crore of the trade.

With four days remaining before the festival, major markets in Delhi have reported heavy shopper footfall as consumers make their final purchases. Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Gandhi Nagar, Khari Baoli and Laxmi Nagar are among the markets witnessing heightened activity.

Khandelwal said the broader Raksha Bandhan economy would extend beyond rakhi sales. Demand for gifts, sweets, clothes, electronics, decorative products, dry fruits, puja articles and other festive items is expected to take the overall trade linked to the festival beyond the Rs 30,000-crore mark.

The festival is also seeing increased demand for themed and locally manufactured rakhis. Along with traditional designs, rakhis highlighting government welfare initiatives, India’s global standing and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 are attracting buyers.

Popular designs include Viksit Bharat Rakhi, Modi Guarantee Rakhi, BrahMos Rakhi, Nari Vandan Rakhi, Atmanirbhar Bharat Rakhi, Vocal for Local Rakhi, Bharat Gaurav Rakhi, Lakhpati Didi Rakhi, Namami Gange Rakhi, Rashtra Raksha Sutra Rakhi and Amrit Kaal Rakhi.

According to Khandelwal, children and young consumers are showing strong interest in BrahMos, Rashtra Raksha Sutra and Viksit Bharat rakhis. Nari Vandan and Lakhpati Didi designs are also gaining popularity among women for their emphasis on empowerment and self-reliance.

He said Raksha Bandhan was increasingly emerging as a platform to promote indigenous products, self-reliance, women’s entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and national pride alongside celebrating the bond between siblings.

The rising demand for locally produced rakhis is expected to provide additional seasonal income to women entrepreneurs, self-help groups, cottage industries and artisans across the country.
