Bihar students march towards CM’s residence over TRE-4 issue, clash with cops

Patna, August 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Student protests intensified in Patna on Tuesday as thousands of candidates gathered in Gardanibagh and marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence, demanding changes in the BPSC TRE-4 recruitment process and greater transparency in government examinations.

The protesters are primarily seeking the removal of the Preliminary-cum-Mains examination format for TRE-4, scrapping of negative marking and implementation of a 100 per cent domicile policy.

As the protesters moved towards the Chief Minister’s residence, the administration tightened security. Thousands of candidates gathered near JP Golambar, where police had erected barricades to stop the march.

The protesters reportedly breached the barricades and proceeded towards Dakbungalow. Police and CRPF personnel were deployed along the route. Scuffles broke out after security personnel began detaining some protesters, leading to a tense situation.

A large number of candidates later gathered at Dakbungalow, where heavy iron barricades were installed to prevent them from advancing further.

The protest, led by student leader Aman Kumar, has received support from more than 15 student organisations, along with teachers and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.

The student organisations have submitted a 13-point list of demands covering recruitment examinations and pending appointments. Their demands include re-conducting the BPSC 70th Combined Competitive Examination, cancelling the recruitment examination for 1,799 Sub-Inspector posts, conducting TRE-4 as a single-stage examination and expediting pending BSSC and BET examinations.

They have also sought faster completion of other recruitment processes, including librarian appointments, and greater transparency through the release of question papers, answer keys and OMR sheets after examinations.

Other demands include a fixed annual examination calendar, strict action against those responsible for paper leaks and irregularities, a clear recruitment age-limit policy, an effective domicile policy, speedy completion of pending appointments and a time-bound mechanism for resolving recruitment-related grievances.
