The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) has arrested a Multi-Purpose Health Worker (MPHW) red-handed while allegedly accepting a ₹2.50 lakh bribe in Nuh district. A medical officer was also arrested after his alleged involvement in the matter came to light during the trap operation.
The arrested accused has been identified as Monu Sharma, an MPHW posted at PHC Pinangwan, Nuh. Dr. Birpal, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at the same health centre, has also been made an accused and arrested. The ₹2.50 lakh bribe amount was recovered during the operation.
According to the complaint, an FIR had been registered against the complainant’s son at Pinangwan Police Station on August 13 under Section 4(2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complainant alleged that Sharma contacted him during the medical examination of the alleged victim and offered to help his son by changing the victim’s medical sample and providing a favourable opinion in the Medical Legal Report (MLR). An initial demand of ₹15,000 was allegedly made, of which ₹5,000 was paid in cash and ₹10,000 transferred to a phone number.
The accused allegedly continued demanding money, eventually seeking ₹3.50 lakh and later asking the complainant to bring ₹2.50 lakh. The complainant subsequently approached the SV&ACB.
After verifying the complaint, a Faridabad SV&ACB team laid a trap and allegedly caught Sharma accepting ₹2.50 lakh. During the operation, the alleged involvement of Dr. Birpal was detected, following which he was arrested.
FIR No. 31 dated August 18 has been registered at SV&ACB Police Station, Gurugram, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The prescribed procedure under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, was followed. Mahender Singh, Veterinary Surgeon, Palwal, participated as a gazetted officer.
SV&ACB Chief Arshinder Singh Chawla, IPS, said the bureau was committed to the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and warned that strict legal action would be taken against officials found demanding or accepting bribes.
The bureau has appealed to citizens to report demands for bribes by government officials through helpline numbers 1064 and 1800-180-2022.
