New Delhi, August 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has said education and healthcare remain the party’s top priorities, asserting that government schools were transformed first in Delhi and are now undergoing similar improvements in Punjab.
Kejriwal made the remarks after an old video of a Punjab government school was circulated on social media, prompting Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains to visit the institution and assess the situation.
Sharing a video of Bains’ visit on social media, Kejriwal said the Education Minister’s immediate response reflected the AAP government’s focus on education and its willingness to verify conditions on the ground.
“I am so happy that today education and schools are being discussed everywhere in the country. It has become a people’s movement. It should have happened long back,” Kejriwal said.
He said education and healthcare had always been central to the AAP’s political agenda.
“We believe that no country can progress without providing the best and free education and healthcare to all its citizens. These are the foundation for the development of any country,” he said.
Highlighting the party’s work in Delhi and Punjab, Kejriwal said the AAP had undertaken extensive improvements in government schools, with several institutions becoming comparable to, and in some cases better than, leading private schools.
“There are thousands of instances where many parents shifted their kids from private to government schools, both in Punjab and Delhi,” he said.
On the ongoing improvements in Punjab, Kejriwal said most government schools had already received basic facilities, while work was continuing in the remaining institutions.
“Barring a few, most schools have been provided basic facilities. Soon, the remaining schools will also have all basic facilities. Many government schools in Punjab now compete with the best private schools in terms of facilities and quality of education,” he said.
Referring to the old video circulated online, Kejriwal said he welcomed the Education Minister’s decision to visit the school rather than rely solely on claims made on social media.
“Today someone posted an old video of a Punjab government school. I am glad that the Education Minister himself visited that school to verify the situation on the ground. Do read his report,” he said.
The AAP leader said the discussion around government schools should ultimately focus on improving educational standards and ensuring that children receive quality education irrespective of their economic background.
