The foundation stone for a mosque was laid at Gore Nangal village in Ajnala Assembly constituency on Tuesday amid messages of communal harmony, religious tolerance and brotherhood.
Shahi Imam Maulana Mohammad Usman Rehmani Ludhianvi laid the foundation stone during a programme attended by senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Aujla, brother of Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, along with local residents and party leaders.
Welcoming the Shahi Imam, Sukhjinder Singh Aujla described the mosque project as a noble religious initiative and assured the organisers of all possible assistance for its completion.
He said the mosque would provide members of the Muslim community in the village with a dedicated place for religious activities while also contributing to stronger bonds among residents.
Aujla said Punjab’s strength lies in its shared cultural heritage, communal harmony and respect for people of all faiths. He recalled the state’s tradition of bringing communities together and said it was the collective responsibility of people to preserve and strengthen that legacy.
He added that alongside development in the Ajnala constituency, promoting social harmony and brotherhood remained among his priorities. He assured residents that all possible assistance would be extended for their religious and social needs.
A large number of villagers, Congress leaders and workers attended the programme. Local residents welcomed the Shahi Imam and expressed happiness over the commencement of construction of the mosque.
