The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday alleged that its scheduled meeting in Kolkata was cancelled after the owner of the proposed venue refused to provide the space, citing alleged pressure from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka announced the cancellation of the meeting, which was scheduled for Wednesday at Bharat Sabha Hall in north Kolkata.
In a social media post, Ranka alleged that the hall owners had received threats from BJP leaders and claimed that six other venues had also declined to host the meeting, citing “massive pressure from the state”. The allegations were not independently verified.
Ranka said the development showed that the BJP was allegedly “scared of the cockroaches”, referring to CJP supporters. He said the party would soon organise a larger event and continue its campaign to inspect government schools and press the West Bengal government to address deficiencies in them.

“The more you stop us, the bigger we become,” Ranka said.
He also claimed that his scheduled media interaction at the Kolkata Press Club had to be cancelled because of power disruptions at the club premises in the Maidan area of central Kolkata, which he said had continued since Monday night.
The CJP has been running its “School Thik Koro” (Fix the Schools) campaign, under which its volunteers visit government schools and highlight alleged shortcomings.
The party had earlier issued an ultimatum to the West Bengal government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, demanding the arrest and strong action against those allegedly responsible for the mysterious death of the father of a CJP volunteer in Bankura district. The volunteer had participated in the school campaign.
Ranka alleged that the state government could have sought time to address concerns over government schools and worked with stakeholders to improve the education system.
“But when our volunteer went to audit the schools, his father was killed,” he claimed.
