The Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (GGSSC), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Unit, organised ‘Welcome Event 2026’ under the Directorate of Students’ Welfare to welcome newly admitted students and familiarise them with the university’s academic, cultural and campus environment.
Dr Kamaljit Singh Suri, Director, Students’ Welfare, formally welcomed the guests and students and highlighted the importance of engaging students in meaningful co-curricular and value-based activities.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, who attended the event as Chief Guest, encouraged students to look beyond academic achievement and develop confidence, leadership qualities, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Dr Gosal urged the freshers to identify emerging opportunities, pursue their goals with discipline and perseverance, and apply their knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.
Dr Sarbjeet Singh Renuka delivered a motivational address, encouraging students to recognise their strengths, develop their abilities and treat challenges and failures as opportunities for learning and growth. He urged them to think innovatively, pursue their ideas with determination and connect their skills with societal needs.
The event was attended by Dr Manmohanjit Singh, Dean, College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri; Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director, Culture; Dr Bikramjit Singh; Dr K.B. Singh; Dr M.S. Sidhu; Dr B.S. Gill; Dr Sumedha Bhandari; Dr Gurpreet Kaur; and S. Satvir Singh of PAU.
Representatives from the GGSSC Zonal Office, including S. Gurmeet Singh, Director Overseas; S. Brijinderpal Singh, Chief Organizer; S. Jaspal Singh Pinky; and S. Jaspal Singh Coach, also attended the programme.
A major attraction was the display of 10 stalls by student entrepreneurs, who showcased their products, creative skills and business ideas. The initiative provided students with practical exposure to innovation, communication, enterprise development and self-employment opportunities.
The event was coordinated by GGSSC student volunteers under the guidance of Dr Buta Singh Dhillon, President, GGSSC, PAU Unit.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr M.I.S. Gill, who encouraged students to make full use of the opportunities available at PAU and contribute positively to society.
The event provided a platform for the new students to build confidence, explore their creativity and understand the importance of social responsibility alongside their academic pursuits.
