AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Central government of using central investigative agencies against Punjab and said Punjabis would respond to what he termed the BJP’s “Dhakkashahi” by giving the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led AAP more than 100 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Kejriwal was reacting to the CBI raid at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s camp office, which the AAP leadership described as politically motivated and linked to the approaching state elections.
“The CBI raid at the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office two months before the elections is a result of the BJP’s panic,” Kejriwal said, alleging that the Centre had repeatedly “pushed Punjabis aside” on issues including the farmers’ protest, Punjab’s water and Panjab University.
He alleged that the BJP could not defeat AAP in Punjab through elections and was therefore seeking to use agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and CBI.
“But Punjabis have made up their minds, and in the upcoming elections, they will respond to the BJP’s CBI raid by giving Bhagwant Singh Mann more than 100 seats and making him the Chief Minister again,” Kejriwal said.
AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia also linked the CBI action to the political climate, calling it the BJP’s “advance party” for the elections. “This raid is proof not of strength, but of panic,” he wrote on X.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of repeatedly using investigative agencies during elections and alleged that the Mann government was being targeted despite its work in electricity, water, education and healthcare.
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the BJP was attempting to replicate its Delhi election strategy in Punjab, including through what he described as false cases and high-profile arrests.
AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda also criticised the CBI action, alleging that the BJP was using the agency because it had been unable to establish a political foothold in Punjab.
The AAP leaders’ remarks come amid heightened political activity in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections, with the party seeking to frame the CBI action as an attempt to target the elected state government.
