New Delhi, October 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said INDIA bloc leaders would continue their protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar at the designated site at Jantar Mantar, asserting that they would not be deterred by police cases or FIRs.

The statements came after Kharge hosted a lunch meeting for INDIA bloc leaders at a restaurant in Janpath.

Speaking to reporters, Kharge said the Opposition leaders would stage a sit-in at Jantar Mantar and continue their agitation until their demands were met.

“Today, we will hold a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar. Until our demands are met, we will continue to hold such protests,” he said.

Kharge alleged that the Election Commission had committed mistakes with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused it of undermining democracy and the Constitution.

“It is our responsibility to take the people’s message across the country. That is why we, the leaders of all (INDIA bloc) parties, want to unitedly tell the citizens that we will keep fighting for the protection of our rights, which are being snatched away, irrespective of the number of cases filed against us,” he said.

Kharge was referring to a complaint received by Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA bloc MPs who accompanied them during Tuesday’s protest. Officials said an FIR had been registered over allegations that the protesters forcibly entered Akashvani Bhawan.

“We won’t be scared by anyone and will keep fighting,” Kharge asserted.

Rahul Gandhi said around 300 MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had sought to meet the CEC on Tuesday but were not allowed to do so.

He said the Opposition would now go to the designated protest venue at Jantar Mantar and reiterate its stand against Gyanesh Kumar.

“…for us, Gyanesh Kumar is not the legitimate Election Commissioner of the country,” Gandhi said.

He also reiterated his allegations against Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Gyanesh Kumar, accusing them of undermining democracy and demanding the CEC’s resignation.

On the FIRs registered against him, Gandhi said: “I have 45 FIRs against me. My goal is to have 100. I want 100 FIRs to be filed against me. Every FIR is a medal for me.”
