Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a swipe at the FIR lodged against him following his protest at Akashwani Bhavan, saying he already has 45 cases against him and that his “goal is to have 100 FIRs”.
Gandhi made the remarks before heading to Jantar Mantar with INDIA bloc leaders to continue their protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“I have 45 FIRs against me. My goal is to have 100. I want 100 FIRs to be filed against me. Every FIR is a medal for me,” Gandhi told reporters.
Delhi Police has received a complaint against Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA bloc MPs who accompanied them during Tuesday’s protest. The complaint relates to allegations that they forcibly entered the Akashwani Bhawan during the demonstration.

Gandhi said around 300 MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had sought to meet the CEC on Tuesday but were not granted a meeting. He also alleged that the Delhi Police stopped the MPs and informed them that they could not protest at the location.
“Our plan today is to go to the designated protest site, Jantar Mantar, and sit there again and tell the country that, for us, Gyanesh Kumar is not the legitimate Election Commissioner of the country,” he said.
Gandhi also reiterated his allegations from Tuesday, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Gyanesh Kumar had together “finished the country’s democracy”.
“This is treason and action will be taken against those involved in this. Gyanesh Kumar will have to resign,” he said.
Meanwhile, a bus carrying Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA bloc MPs headed towards Jantar Mantar. Congress MPs Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Deepender Singh Hooda, Imran Pratapgarhi and Imran Masood were seen climbing atop the bus.
Earlier, Kharge hosted an INDIA bloc lunch meeting at a restaurant in Janpath. After the meeting, he said the opposition would hold a sit-in at Jantar Mantar and continue such protests until its demands were met.
