Ferozepur, October 7, 2026 (Vikram Ditya Sharma)
Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Wednesday visited grain markets in Ferozepur to review arrangements for the ongoing crop procurement and assess facilities being provided to farmers.
Kataruchak said Punjab had witnessed a bumper crop this season and that procurement was progressing smoothly. He said adequate arrangements had been put in place in the mandis to ensure that farmers did not face inconvenience during the procurement process.
During his visit, the minister was also asked about the recent CBI action and allegations concerning the alleged misuse of central investigative agencies.
Targeting the BJP-led Central government, Kataruchak said the Constitution did not permit agencies such as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to be used to suppress the voice of Opposition parties.
He said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party convener Arvind Kejriwal, were not afraid of such raids.
Kataruchak alleged that with the Assembly elections approaching, the BJP was attempting to intimidate the AAP leadership in Punjab.
He further claimed that similar actions had taken place in Delhi, West Bengal and Maharashtra and alleged that the BJP was now attempting to follow the same pattern in Punjab.
