Gurugram, October 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday described October 7 as a “golden and epoch-making day” in the history of Indian democracy as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years at the helm of government.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha – Seva Jyoti Yatra’ in Gurugram, organised as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Shah said Modi had created a record by serving continuously as Chief Minister and Prime Minister for 25 years.
Shah said Modi, who was born into a poor family, had reached the milestone through his abilities and by taking “crores of people” along with him.
“October 7 marks a golden and epoch-making day in the history of Indian democracy,” Shah said, adding that the 25-year journey would be written in “golden letters” whenever the history of India was recorded.
Highlighting what he described as major achievements during these years, Shah referred to poverty reduction, national security, the abrogation of Article 370, the government’s campaign against Naxalism, construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi and Kashi Vishwanath temples, infrastructure development and the lifting of 25 crore people above the poverty line.
“These 25 years are about the welfare of citizens; it is 25 years of the country’s pride,” Shah said.
The Home Minister also outlined the ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ planned as part of the celebrations. He said young participants would carry a torch for around 800 metres before installing it at a designated crossing.
Shah said he would light the torch in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and flag off the youth participating in the yatra. He also urged people to join the programme in large numbers.
Concluding his address, Shah prayed for Modi’s long and healthy life and expressed the hope that the Prime Minister would continue to lead the country for many more years.
