Srinagar, October 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday alleged that the delimitation exercise in the Union Territory was carried out to benefit the BJP and claimed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was also being used to favour the party.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said J&K had already suffered because of the delimitation exercise.

“Delimitation was done in J&K to support the BJP. They are using SIR to help the same party. They are doing it elsewhere in the country, and they may also do it in J&K, but after the Supreme Court issued notice in the matter, it might not be that easy now to misuse Form 7 to help the BJP,” he said.

On a report published by a leading national daily, Abdullah said the government would have filed a defamation case if the report had been incorrect.

“That no defamation was filed against the report of the newspaper proves the report was correct,” he said.

On the expansion of his Council of Ministers, Abdullah said he would consult National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah after attending the upcoming GST meeting in Delhi before deciding on the expansion.

Under the rules, Jammu and Kashmir can have a Council of Ministers comprising up to 10 members, including the Chief Minister. The Cabinet currently has six members, leaving scope for four more appointments. The Chief Minister can also reshuffle or drop existing ministers.

Abdullah had offered one Cabinet berth to the Congress, which has six MLAs in the 90-member Assembly. However, JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra has said the party will not join the government unless statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.

The National Conference has 41 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 29, Congress six, PDP four, and AAP, CPI(M), Peoples Conference and Awami Ittehad Party with one each. There are six Independents, four of whom support the NC government.
