Bengaluru, October 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Bengaluru court conducting the trial in the Renukaswamy murder case has for the first time issued direct notices to major social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and X, over the circulation of videos purportedly showing court proceedings.

The 59th Sessions Court on Wednesday directed that videos of the proceedings uploaded on social media platforms be removed. Following the order, videos that had been circulated online were being taken down.

The court also directed the police to initiate legal action against individuals found recording and circulating live proceedings from the case. The police have been specifically instructed to register contempt of court proceedings against those who record and subsequently make such content viral.

The action follows the circulation of videos from proceedings involving accused-turned-approver Pradosh S. Rao. Social media influencers and YouTubers were allegedly involved in recording and uploading portions of the proceedings on their respective platforms.

Taking serious note of the unauthorised recording and dissemination, the court issued directions aimed at preventing further circulation of the material.

Previously, such instances were generally handled by police by approaching social media platforms, issuing notices and registering cases against those allegedly responsible for uploading the content.

With its latest order, the trial court has directly addressed the social media platforms and made it clear that unauthorised recording and circulation of court proceedings could attract legal action, including contempt proceedings.

The case relates to the alleged murder of Renukaswamy, in which Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and several others are accused. The trial is being conducted before the 59th Sessions Court in Bengaluru.

Pradosh Rao, accused No. 14 in the high-profile case, was granted official approver status. He had been recording a detailed and confidential confession statement before the magistrate.

The emergence of viral clips purportedly showing closed-door or restricted interactions during the trial prompted the Sessions Court to take serious objection to their circulation. The court also expressed concern over the availability of the restricted proceedings on social media platforms.
