New Delhi, October 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited the residence of veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani and sought his blessings on a day marking 25 years since Modi first assumed executive office.

Modi took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and has remained in executive office continuously since then, including his tenure as Prime Minister from May 2014.

The meeting with Advani reflected the long political association between the Prime Minister and one of the BJP’s prominent leaders. Photographs from the meeting showed the two leaders interacting cordially.

Modi has regularly visited Advani on his birthdays and on other occasions. In previous years, he has described Advani’s contribution to the nation as “monumental” and acknowledged the veteran leader as a source of inspiration.

Advani is widely regarded within the BJP as an influential figure in the party’s organisational and political growth. As BJP president and later Deputy Prime Minister, he played a key role in strengthening the party’s organisation and nurturing leaders across different states.

Modi’s association with Advani dates back to his years in Gujarat. Advani was also among the senior BJP leaders who supported Modi’s rise within the party during his years as Gujarat Chief Minister.

In May 2019, after the BJP secured a second consecutive majority in the Lok Sabha elections, Modi visited Advani’s residence to seek his blessings before staking claim to form the government.

Modi has repeatedly acknowledged Advani’s influence, describing him as a statesman whose vision and commitment to public life contributed significantly to the BJP’s growth.

Wednesday’s meeting came amid celebrations within the BJP to mark Modi’s completion of 25 years in executive office. The Union Cabinet had on Tuesday adopted a resolution congratulating the Prime Minister on completing the milestone.

The resolution described Modi’s journey from Gujarat to New Delhi as being guided by the principles of “Nation First” and “Citizen First” and was adopted amid a standing ovation.
