UNITED SIKHS Raises Alarm Over Humanitarian Crisis in South Lebanon as Families Struggle to Rebuild

South Lebanon, October 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

UNITED SIKHS has called for urgent international attention and humanitarian support for communities in South Lebanon, warning that families recovering from months of conflict continue to face insecurity, displacement and severe difficulties in rebuilding their lives.

The humanitarian organisation conducted a recent field assessment in Srifa, where its team met local authorities, community members and displaced families to assess immediate needs and identify priorities for assistance.

The assessment found that although many families have returned to their areas of origin, the recovery process remains fragile, with renewed insecurity adding to the challenges faced by communities already affected by prolonged conflict.

UNITED SIKHS said recent military escalation in South Lebanon has resulted in civilian casualties, increased fear among residents and further damage to homes and public infrastructure. Families who had returned and begun rebuilding are once again facing uncertainty and security concerns.

The organisation said extensive damage to homes, roads, water networks and electricity infrastructure has left many families living in unsafe conditions and struggling to access essential services.

Women and girls are facing additional protection concerns, including economic hardship, limited access to healthcare and inadequate privacy and safety in damaged homes, according to the assessment.

Education has emerged as another major concern. UNITED SIKHS said hundreds of schools have been damaged and more than 100,000 children are at risk of missing school unless rehabilitation and support are provided urgently.

Despite large-scale returns, many families continue to face displacement-related difficulties, including unsafe housing, limited access to basic services and fragile livelihood opportunities.

UNITED SIKHS said it is prioritising humanitarian assistance covering shelter, food security, healthcare, education, protection of women and girls, infrastructure restoration, livelihood recovery and psychosocial support.

The organisation said these interventions are aimed at helping affected communities recover safely and sustainably while restoring access to essential services and creating conditions for families to rebuild their lives.
