Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer action entertainer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate, paving the way for its worldwide theatrical release.
Sun Pictures, which is producing the film, announced the certification on social media, writing, “#Jailer2 is censored U/A!”
The certification comes shortly after the makers unveiled the much-awaited trailer, which has generated strong interest among fans.
The trailer opens with actor Suraj Venjaramoodu’s character questioning a hostage about the whereabouts of a person behind a series of developments. The hostage responds that even his interrogator will not be able to find him.
The mystery deepens as several characters attempt to identify the person behind the events, before Rajinikanth makes his appearance as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
The trailer reveals that Muthuvel Pandian has deliberately gone off the radar by posing as a driver. He keeps a low profile while attempting to discover whether the chain of command among the villains extends further.
The character is also shown using snipers against his enemies, with S J Suryah’s character warning that they can retaliate in the same manner.
Another notable exchange features Rajinikanth and Vidya Balan. When she asks him whether he wants tea or coffee, he politely declines, prompting her to point out that the choice is between tea and coffee, not whether he wants a drink.
The trailer also introduces the dreaded “Kalpaks”. When Muthuvel Pandian is warned about them, he responds with a smile before issuing his own threat, contrasting their methods with the changing ways of organised violence.
Jailer 2 is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on October 15.
The film has been among the most anticipated projects since its announcement. In April, the makers announced that shooting had been completed and shared pictures from a cake-cutting ceremony held to mark the end of filming.
