Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for renewed collective resolve to achieve India’s long-term national goals, repeatedly invoking the rallying cry “We will do it” as he marked 25 years of his journey in executive office.
Addressing the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha in New Delhi, PM Modi said the occasion was not merely about reflecting on the past but about drawing fresh energy for the country’s future.
“Today is not just a day for memories; it is a day to fill our resolutions with new energy. It is a day to reiterate that promise, to express that determination which says, ‘We will do it! We will do it! We will do it!’” he said.
The gathering echoed the slogan in response.
Recalling his emphasis on collective participation in nation-building, the Prime Minister referred to his call for “Sabka Prayas” and urged citizens to approach the country’s aspirations with confidence and determination.
He then listed several goals and asked the gathering to repeat the slogan after each one — achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047, becoming one of the world’s top three economies, building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, emerging as a global manufacturing hub, hosting the Olympics and taking further steps in space exploration.
PM Modi said an assessment of his 25 years in public service should focus not only on his personal journey but also on the progress made by India during the period.
Recalling his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, he said he had always regarded the state’s development as part of the country’s broader progress.
He said that when he took charge in Gujarat, he lacked experience in running a government but relied on his faith in people and the experience he had gained through years of social work.
“I made this faith my strength. I took decisions by taking the people along, formulated policies with the people and implemented them with the people,” he said.
Taking aim at the situation before 2014, PM Modi said India was facing multiple challenges and that citizens were seeking a new direction when he became Prime Minister.
Referring to the economy, he said India’s global standing was under scrutiny, while concerns over growth and inflation had contributed to a sense of pessimism.
He said he responded by calling upon the collective strength of Indians and once again gave the message: “We will do it!”
The Prime Minister also cited agriculture as an example of India’s transformation, claiming that the decade from 2015 to 2025 recorded the country’s highest agricultural growth over a sustained decade since Independence.
He said the government had pursued “saturation” in welfare delivery, under which every eligible beneficiary is covered and no rightful beneficiary is left out.
“This is saturation, and this is the real story of change,” he said.
PM Modi said India’s demographic scale and collective strength provided the foundation for achieving the Viksit Bharat goal.
“Together, the 140 crore citizens of India will build a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and we certainly will! We will do it!” he said.
He also remembered Indian flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar, whose bravery has drawn international attention, and linked his example to his vision of a future in which Indian-made aircraft receive similar global recognition.
“Today, India’s pilot is being discussed across the world. One day will also come when, just as India’s pilots are being discussed today, the world will talk about Made in India planes,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the country’s ambitions would require visionary policymaking and sustained effort.
“These goals will be achieved only when we formulate visionary policies in the present and also put in the utmost effort. Our country has problems, but we also have 140 crore solutions,” he said.
He urged citizens not to become complacent, saying the time had come to move forward with enthusiasm and dedicate themselves to the nation.
Reflecting on his own journey, PM Modi said his eagerness to learn had remained an important part of his life and that he continued to consider himself a student.
He said every crisis had tested his patience, while every success had deepened his sense of responsibility towards the country.
“Every crisis has been a test of my patience, every success has deepened my sense of responsibility, and every achievement has given me the courage and determination to move towards bigger goals,” he said.
Amid chants of “Modi-Modi”, the Prime Minister added that every experience in his life had taught him something and contributed to his journey of public service.
