Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of the Punjab Cold Storage Owners Association (POSCON) in Chandigarh and discussed various issues concerning the cold storage sector.
During the meeting, the association representatives highlighted the importance of cold storage facilities in preserving agricultural and horticultural produce and raised several issues related to the functioning of cold storage units.
Listening to their concerns, Bhagat said the state government was committed to addressing every genuine demand to strengthen horticulture and provide better facilities to farmers.
The minister said cold storage facilities play a crucial role in protecting agricultural and horticultural produce and reducing post-harvest losses. He stressed the need to strengthen cold storage infrastructure linked to the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
Bhagat assured the association representatives that their demands would be taken up with the concerned departments and appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the rules.
He said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was continuously working for the welfare of farmers and horticulturists. He added that special attention was being given to strengthening the horticulture sector and ensuring the availability of necessary facilities for farmers.
Additional Secretary, Horticulture Department, Latif Ahmed, Director Manish Kumar and other department officials were also present at the meeting.
