Trump says Xi to visit US in two weeks

Washington, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US President Donald Trump has said Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States in about two weeks, as Washington and Beijing prepare for another high-level engagement amid ongoing tensions over trade, technology and national security. Recent reports have also pointed to preparations for a Trump-Xi meeting in September.

Trump disclosed the expected visit while addressing a Republican campaign rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Friday. He did not provide a specific date, venue or agenda for Xi’s visit.

“As an example, in two weeks, President Xi of China’s coming,” Trump said.

The President referred to Xi while discussing the proposed ballroom project at the White House, saying the existing East Room was too small to accommodate major official events and visiting delegations.

“You know, we have a tiny little room right now. It’s been that way for years. It’s called East Room, and it seats 88 people,” Trump said.

He said he wished the proposed ballroom were already available for the Chinese President’s visit, adding that the project would be completed in about a year.

Trump also said the US Supreme Court had allowed the White House project to proceed. He said the planned complex would include military-related features, including protection against drones and missiles and bulletproof glass.

“The military’s wanted this done for 100 years, and presidents have wanted it done for 150 years,” he said.

Trump thanked the Supreme Court and Chief Justice for allowing construction to proceed and said the project was running under budget and ahead of schedule, without disclosing an estimated cost.

His remarks on Xi came during a rally focused largely on Republican candidate Darline Graham ahead of Tuesday’s Senate runoff in South Carolina. Trump also used the event to defend his tariff policy and argue that import duties were encouraging foreign companies to establish manufacturing operations in the US.

Trump claimed that $19.2 trillion was being invested in the United States and that factory construction was surging, although his remarks did not identify the source or provide a breakdown of the figure.

“It’s my all-time favorite word. I love tariffs. I love the word. It’s made us rich as hell,” he said.

China and the US have the world’s largest bilateral trading relationship, but ties remain strained by disputes over tariffs, technology, semiconductor exports, market access and national security.
