Punjabi singer and former Bigg Boss 15 contestant Afsana Khan faced online criticism after attending Ganpati celebrations at comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath’s residence in Mumbai.
Afsana shared pictures from the celebrations on social media, including one in which she was seen with her husband, singer and music producer Saajz, alongside Kapil and Ginni in front of a decorated idol of Lord Ganesha.
Sharing her experience, Afsana wrote about celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at “Kapil Paji and Ginni Bhabhi’s house” and described the occasion as being filled with love, happiness and fun. She also mentioned seeing Ganpati Bappa at “Mikka Paji’s house”.
While several social media users responded with love and blessings, a section of commenters criticised Afsana for participating in Hindu religious festivities, with some targeting her religious identity.
Some comments accused her of abandoning her faith for fame, while others questioned her decision to participate in the celebrations.
A section of users, however, defended the singer and urged people to stop trolling her. One commenter appealed to others not to continue criticising her and referred to late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
This is not the first time Afsana has faced such online criticism. In August, during Shravan, she shared pictures and videos of herself performing Rudrabhishek of a Shivling with Saajz. She captioned one post, “Meri taqat mera Mahadev hai” (My strength is my Mahadev).
That post also drew a mixed response, with some users praising her while others questioned her participation in Hindu religious practices and posted derogatory comments about her identity and upbringing.
Professionally, Afsana began her singing journey with Voice of Punjab Season 3 in 2012 and later participated in Rising Star Season 1. She gained widespread popularity with songs including Dhakka, Jaani Ve Jaani and Titliaan Warga, the latter becoming a major hit in 2020.
She subsequently entered Hindi television with Bigg Boss 15 in 2021, where her outspoken personality made her one of the more talked-about contestants of the season.
