A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member sustained a gunshot injury after his rifle allegedly went off accidentally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Tuesday, while police in neighbouring Rajouri district attached immovable property belonging to a terror handler.
Officials said the VDC guard was injured in the abdomen in the accidental firing incident in the Majalta area of Udhampur on Tuesday morning. The injured man was identified as Parshotam Lal, a resident of Chore Panjian in Majalta.
He was shifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.
Police have begun an investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, in Rajouri, Thanamandi Police attached immovable property belonging to alleged terror handler Nazarat Hussain, son of Mohd Sadiq and a resident of Niali Thanamandi.
The property was attached under legal provisions in connection with FIR No. 04/2011 registered at Thanamandi Police Station under Sections 3 and 4 of the E&IMCO Act.
The attached land comprises Khasra Nos. 33, 34, 39, 51, 52, 53, 58, 59, 60, 65 and 89, covering 1 Kanal and 2.5 Marlas. Its approximate value has been assessed at Rs 45 lakh.
Attachment boards were installed on the property in the presence of the concerned authorities and police personnel, formally marking the land as attached under law.
Rajouri Police said the action was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the support networks associated with terrorism and pursue legal action against individuals allegedly involved in anti-national activities.
J&K Police has been taking action against terrorists, Over Ground Workers, sympathisers and terror handlers by attaching their properties after obtaining requisite court orders. Police have also targeted properties linked to terror handlers who allegedly escaped security operations and are operating from across the border in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
