Five more civilians allegedly forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces in Balochistan

At least five civilians have allegedly been forcibly disappeared in separate incidents in Balochistan, according to Paank, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement.

The rights body said 28-year-old Hayat was taken from his home in the Dasht Konchti area of Kech district in the early hours of August 26. It alleged that personnel from Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Frontier Corps (FC) and Military Intelligence (MI) were involved in the incident.

Paank said another student, Agha Gull, was allegedly taken from his home in Killi Shah Nawaz area of Quetta on August 21 by FC and CTD personnel.

On the same day, Hasnain Imdad, a driver from the Sarawan area of Panjgur district, was allegedly forcibly disappeared by CTD and MI personnel, it said.

The organisation further alleged that Hafeezullah Baloch, a labourer, was taken from Shahwani Stadium in Quetta last month by personnel of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and CTD.

It also reported the alleged abduction of 16-year-old Shah Baksh Babo from his home in the Sarikalag area of Kech last month.

Paank described the alleged disappearances as serious violations of fundamental human rights and said they were inconsistent with Pakistan’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and, in the case of the minor, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

The rights organisation called on Pakistani authorities to disclose the whereabouts and condition of the missing individuals, facilitate access to their families and legal counsel, and either produce them before a competent court in accordance with due process or release them.

It also demanded independent investigations into the alleged involvement of FC, CTD, ISI and MI personnel and accountability for those found responsible.

Paank has repeatedly raised allegations of enforced disappearances and other abuses in Balochistan. Pakistani authorities have previously faced criticism from rights groups over the issue.
