An Alliance Air flight from Delhi to Bilaspur suffered a tyre burst while landing at Bilaspur airport on Friday morning, with all 41 people on board safely evacuated, officials said.
Flight 9I613, carrying 37 passengers and four crew members, was landing at around 11 a.m. when its left-side tyre was punctured during the landing, according to officials.
Following the incident, passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft and taken from the runway to the terminal building. No injuries were reported.
The airline subsequently cancelled the flight scheduled to operate onward from Bilaspur, officials said. Further details about the incident were awaited.
Alliance Air is a government-owned regional airline that primarily connects tier-2 and tier-3 cities with major metropolitan centres.
Established in April 1996 as a subsidiary of Indian Airlines, the carrier was earlier known as Air India Regional. Following the privatisation of Air India, Alliance Air operates independently under AI Asset Holding Limited (AIAHL), a government-owned special purpose vehicle.
Headquartered in New Delhi, the airline has operational hubs in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Its fleet primarily comprises turboprop aircraft, including ATR 72-600, ATR 42-600 and Dornier 228 aircraft.
The airline currently connects 55 destinations across India and operates more than 80 departures daily. It has also played a significant role in the Centre’s UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme, which seeks to expand affordable air services to underserved and unserved areas.
Alliance Air was the launch carrier for the first UDAN flight, on the Shimla-Delhi route, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 27, 2017.
