The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Controller of Accounts serving as Internal Financial Advisor (IFA) in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for allegedly accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe through his wife, the agency said on Wednesday.
The officer, an Indian Civil Accounts Service official of the 2020 batch, was posted as IFA in the ministry. The CBI has not disclosed the identities of the officer or his wife.
According to the agency, it registered a case against the officer on August 18 following a complaint alleging that he had demanded ₹15 lakh from a private company for expediting the processing of its contract renewal file pending before him.
The alleged bribe demand was subsequently negotiated, following which the officer agreed to accept ₹10 lakh, the CBI said.
Acting on the complaint, the agency laid a trap on August 18 and apprehended the public servant when the alleged bribe was being handed over through his wife.
The CBI said further investigation into the case is underway.
The action comes amid a series of recent corruption cases involving government officials and other public servants.
On July 24, the agency arrested Tridib Banerjee, a senior executive at the IRCTC West Zone Office in Mumbai, and private company director Amar Thakkar in an alleged bribery case. The CBI had alleged that Banerjee received ₹1.98 lakh and ₹2 lakh to facilitate clearance of pending bills.
In April, the agency arrested a GST Superintendent and an Inspector in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, following a trap operation over an alleged ₹15,000 bribe linked to the clearance of a GST registration.
Earlier, in February 2026, the CBI arrested a Branch Manager and Field Officer of UP Gramin Bank, along with a private individual, for allegedly demanding and accepting ₹45,000 for sanctioning a ₹5 lakh loan.
The CBI said its actions against allegedly corrupt public servants reflect its commitment to combating corruption and urged citizens to report demands for bribes made by public officials.
