Sunita Ahuja arrived at the Bandra Family Court on Wednesday with her son Yashvardhan Ahuja amid the ongoing public tension between her and Bollywood actor Govinda.
Sunita was accompanied by Yashvardhan as photographers followed the mother-son duo outside the court. Yashvardhan appeared visibly upset and at one point asked the paparazzi to make way for his mother and not hound her.
When photographers asked what had happened inside the court, Yashvardhan responded loudly, “Nothing.” Sunita, meanwhile, appeared to respond sarcastically, saying, “Birthday manane aaye the” (Had come to celebrate Birthday).
Sunita was dressed casually in a light pink shirt and black trousers, while Yashvardhan wore a white shirt, grey trousers and blue sneakers.
The latest appearance comes amid a public spat between Sunita and Govinda that intensified after the actor was seen at an airport with his Roopa co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar.
Sunita subsequently questioned Govinda’s association with the younger actress, referring to him as a “sugar daddy” and saying he was “going around with a girl who is the same age as his daughter”. She also told Komal to “dress properly”. There has been no confirmation of any romantic relationship between Govinda and Komal.
Komal is associated with Govinda’s upcoming film Roopa, and the actor has maintained that his professional association with younger actresses should not be interpreted as a personal relationship.
Govinda later responded to Sunita through a video message, asking her not to interfere with his professional work or make public statements that could affect his reputation and business. Addressing criticism over the age difference between actors and their female co-stars, he cited earlier instances of Bollywood stars working opposite younger actresses and said professional collaborations should not automatically be viewed as relationships.
He also urged Sunita to exercise restraint in her public language, particularly objecting to what he described as repeated use of abusive expressions involving mothers and sisters. Govinda said public figures should be mindful of their influence on younger people and asked Sunita to avoid excessive use of swear words.
Sunita has previously spoken publicly about difficulties in her marriage and allegations concerning Govinda’s relationships. Reports of marital discord have surfaced several times.
According to earlier reports, Sunita filed a divorce petition at the Bandra Family Court in December 2024, with cruelty, adultery and desertion cited as grounds. However, the couple later appeared together during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and publicly said that their bond could not be broken.
Govinda and Sunita married in 1987 and have two children, daughter Tina Ahuja and son Yashvardhan Ahuja. Yashvardhan is preparing for his acting debut, while Tina, also known as Narmada, made her Bollywood debut with Second Hand Husband in 2015.
