Akali Dal Cracks Down on Indiscipline; Sukhbir Badal Expels Party Leader for Anti-Party Activities

Chandigarh, June 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal has expelled party leader Hardev Singh Bajechak from the party’s primary membership over alleged anti-party activities.

The action pertains to Bajechak, a party functionary associated with the Gurdaspur Assembly segment in Gurdaspur district.

According to a statement issued by the party, the decision was taken following a written complaint submitted by Gurdaspur Urban Akali Jatha President and former Gurdaspur MLA Gurbachan Singh Babbehali.

The complaint alleged that Hardev Singh Bajechak had worked against the interests of the party during the recently held Municipal Council elections. It was further alleged that after the elections, he addressed a press conference and made objectionable remarks against party leadership and local leaders.

After consulting senior party colleagues and reviewing the matter, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal decided to expel Bajechak from the party’s primary membership.

Badal reiterated that party discipline would be maintained at all costs and that any activity detrimental to the interests of the Shiromani Akali Dal would not be tolerated.

The move is being viewed as part of the party leadership’s efforts to enforce organisational discipline and strengthen internal accountability ahead of future political challenges in Punjab.
