Gidderbaha, November 23, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)
The Gidderbaha by-election, which has been the center of attraction in Punjab, has been won by Aam Aadmi Party candidate Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon. He defeated his nearest rival and Congress Party candidate Amrita Warring, wife of Pradesh Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, by a huge margin of 21801 votes.
Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, who left Akali Dal and joined the AAP, got 71198 votes, while Amrita Warring got 49397 votes.
BJP candidate Manpreet Singh Badal lagged behind and only got 12174 votes. Sukhraj Singh, son of Krishan Bhagwan Singh, who was killed in the Behbal Kalan Firing incident and a candidate of SAD Amritsar could only muster 708 votes. Even NOTA fared better and was exercised by 889 voters.
BJP candidate Manpreet Badal, who twice remained Finance Minister of Punjab, lost his security deposit.
Gidderbaha assembly seat fell vacant after Raja Warring won the Lok Sabha seat from Ludhiana. Raja Warring had defeated BJP candidate and now Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
