Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the global recognition received by Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar should be followed by a time when the world also talks about aircraft made in India.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ in New Delhi, Modi recalled Captain Machchhar’s bravery after the Flydubai pilot was praised for thwarting an alleged in-flight hijacking attempt and helping save more than 170 lives on September 30.
“Today, India’s pilot is being discussed across the world. One day will also come when, just as India’s pilots are being discussed today, the world will talk about Made in India planes,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister said achieving such ambitions would require visionary policymaking and sustained effort. He described India’s large young population as a historic opportunity and urged the country’s youth to contribute towards building a developed India.
“Today, the number of youth in India is a great opportunity. We should not miss this opportunity,” he said.
Modi outlined a broad vision for India’s future, saying the country should aim for excellence across startups, sports, disaster management, space, genetics, quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He also called for Indian universities to feature among the world’s leading institutions.
He said the world should increasingly seek Made-in-India products and adopt Indian solutions in areas such as climate change, water governance and poverty alleviation. He also expressed the aspiration for Indian agricultural products to reach dining tables across the world.
Describing India as a nation of “140 crore dreams”, Modi said the country had no shortage of potential and needed to align its collective efforts towards common national goals.
He urged citizens to dedicate their innovation, research, creativity and hard work to the country, saying the freedom struggle was secured through sacrifice and building a developed India would require citizens to “live for the country”.
“Our resolutions will be for the country. Our hard work will be for the country. Our strength will be for the country. Our devotion will be for the country,” he said.
