The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday alleged that unidentified foreign entities were working with forces within India to promote a “regime change” narrative and incite violence, escalating its political confrontation with Opposition parties over recent statements predicting a change of government.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused certain domestic and foreign forces of being unhappy with India’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that a common thread connected developments in different parts of the country and protests abroad.

The BJP’s remarks followed statements by several Opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who described “regime change” as inevitable.

Trivedi also referred to Modi’s Vijayadashami address, claiming the Prime Minister had warned against forces allegedly seeking to destabilise India through corruption, social divisions and opposition to Indian culture and religion.

Drawing parallels with episodes from the Ramayana, the BJP spokesperson alleged that such forces concealed their intentions and repeatedly shifted their demands while pursuing a larger political objective.

“Their real aim, as they have stated, is ‘regime change’ — to overthrow the government through violent conflict and conspiracy, derail India’s progress, create divisions within Indian society, and destroy its religion and culture,” Trivedi said.

He also raised concerns about the impact of protests during the festive season on businesses and traders, arguing that demonstrations were affecting commercial activity during a period generally associated with increased spending.

Taking aim at Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, Trivedi questioned statements suggesting major political changes could follow foreign visits or the arrival of individuals from abroad. He specifically asked what information Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut possessed about alleged conspiracies and challenged Congress to respond.

Trivedi asserted that the Modi government continued to enjoy public support and said attempts to bring about a change of government through what he described as conspiracies would fail.

The allegations were made by the BJP spokesperson at a political press conference. He did not publicly establish evidence of foreign entities directing protests or coordinating efforts to incite violence.
