Ghazipur, October 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

At least six people were seriously injured after a speeding car allegedly went out of control and rammed into a group standing by the roadside on National Highway 31 in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district, officials said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday near an inter-college in the Muhammadabad Kotwali area, when the victims were returning from the Dussehra Mela and standing along the roadside.

The collision triggered panic at the scene, with locals gathering soon afterwards. Some bystanders allegedly caught hold of the driver and assaulted him following the accident.

Police personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information and arranged for the injured to be taken to the Community Health Centre in Muhammadabad for initial treatment. Given the seriousness of their condition, doctors referred them to the district headquarters hospital for further medical care.

Station House Officer Vijay Pratap Singh, who reached the accident site, identified the driver as Ashish Kumar Rai, a resident of Veerpur village under the Bhavarkol police station area.

According to the SHO, Rai was travelling from Muhammadabad towards his native village when the car allegedly went out of control and struck the people standing near the inter-college on National Highway 31.

Police have taken the driver and the vehicle into custody as part of the investigation. Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.

Further details are awaited.
