HDFC Bank has said an internal review is underway into a suspected leak of confidential information, adding that appropriate action will be taken after the findings are evaluated.
The bank said the review was aimed at gathering and examining all relevant facts and declined to comment further while the process was ongoing, citing the need to protect the investigation and the privacy of those involved.
“In line with our policies, an internal review into this matter is currently underway to gather and evaluate all relevant facts,” a bank spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the lender would take appropriate action once the review was complete. The bank also reiterated its commitment to ethical conduct and governance under its Code of Conduct, saying it takes reports of potential violations seriously.
The clarification follows reports that an internal investigation had raised concerns about two senior executives allegedly disclosing confidential information. The bank is also examining whether the information was misused, according to the reports. The allegations have not been established publicly, and the bank has not disclosed further details of its review.
The development comes ahead of a planned leadership transition, with Anup Bagchi scheduled to take over as chief executive on October 27.
HDFC Bank has experienced other leadership changes this year. In March, then-chairman Atanu Chakraborty resigned, citing differences between his personal values and certain practices at the bank. An independent legal review commissioned by the lender subsequently found that his concerns were not substantiated, according to reports.
Last week, the bank also disclosed that Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha had requested to cease his services effective December 31. In a regulatory filing, the lender said his departure was scheduled for the close of business on that date.
