Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s chair was not safe and that people, farmers and younger generations would bring about a change in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Yadav said public opposition to the BJP would intensify and asserted that the ruling party was attempting to retain power amid growing challenges.
“Even the Chief Minister’s chair is not safe, because the people are going to take it away from him this time. It is not just the people; farmers are also going to take his chair away. Gen Z is keeping a close watch, and Gen Alpha has also arrived,” he said.
Yadav described the BJP itself as the “real crisis” facing Uttar Pradesh and said the situation could change only if the party was removed from power.
He also accused the BJP of using people’s religious faith and devotion to protect the government, referring to the 2020 death of gangster Vikas Dubey in a police encounter after his vehicle overturned while he was being transported.
“Vikas Dubey’s vehicle did not overturn; they saved the government from collapsing,” Yadav alleged, linking the episode to what he described as the BJP’s use of faith for political purposes.
The SP chief also raised questions over the alleged circulation of voice messages targeting voters, asking how BJP leaders had obtained voter lists that were not publicly available.
Yadav alleged that ministers had access to voter data and accused the government of engaging companies to send messages and calls to voters. He further alleged that officials in the Education Department, including Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) and District Inspectors of Schools (DIOSs), were intimidating voters.
He warned that officials found involved in political activity or electoral malpractice could face legal action after a change in government.
“If they will be political workers, then they should prepare to go to jail,” Yadav said, urging the Election Commission to remain impartial and government officials to perform their duties without political interference.
