Chandigarh, October 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reached Mansa to investigate the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, with the central agency taking over case-related records from the local police following the Punjab Government’s decision to transfer the probe.

The CBI team reportedly arrived in Mansa late Tuesday night and collected documents connected with the case, marking the beginning of its investigation. The agency is expected to examine the evidence gathered by the police and investigate the circumstances surrounding Jhota’s killing.

Jhota was shot dead on October 13 inside a medical store in Mansa. He was known for raising his voice against the alleged illegal sale of addictive substances.

The accused, identified as Ashwani Kumar, was arrested in Rajasthan.

The transfer of the case to the CBI followed persistent demands by Jhota’s family for an independent investigation. A meeting between the CBI team and the bereaved family was also expected on Wednesday as relatives and supporters continued to seek justice.

Amit Shah Meets Jhota’s Family, Assures Thorough Probe

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Jhota’s family in Mansa on Tuesday and assured them of justice and a thorough investigation into the murder.

Shah reached Mansa at around 3.30 pm and met Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, mother, Amarjit Kaur, and wife, Manpreet Kaur, offering condolences over the loss.

During his Punjab visit, the Union Home Minister also met the families of two other victims in Gurdaspur and Sangrur who were reportedly killed after raising their voices against drug-related activities. A CBI investigation was promised in all three cases.

Several BJP leaders accompanied Shah during the meeting in Mansa, including Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, former state party president Sunil Jakhar, Preneet Kaur, BJP national vice-president Manpreet Singh Badal and Rajya Sabha member Bikramjit Singh Sahney.

The CBI investigation is expected to examine the available evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding Jhota’s murder.
