Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for national unity on the occasion of Vijayadashami, urging political parties, institutions and citizens to stand together against forces that undermine the country’s dignity, social harmony and cultural heritage.
The Prime Minister described those who damage India’s reputation, create divisions in society and promote hostility towards its culture as adversaries of the nation. He stressed the importance of a united response to such challenges.
“Our ancient seers taught us — all political parties, all institutes to be united against enemies,” Modi said, underlining the need for collective resolve in safeguarding the country’s interests.
Extending his greetings on Vijayadashami, he said, “On Vijayadashami, I offer my salutations at the feet of Lord Ram, Mother Janaki, and Bajrang Bali (Lord Hanuman). I extend my heartfelt wishes for Vijayadashami to all my countrymen.”
Modi observed that the spirit of Lord Ram could be felt across India, with Ramlila performances taking place in villages and cities. These traditional enactments, he said, preserve Lord Ram’s ideals and reaffirm the victory of truth over falsehood and good over evil.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Lord Ram’s legacy extends beyond his victory over Ravana. Despite facing numerous hardships, Lord Ram remained committed to truth, principles and dharma, he said.
He also recalled Lord Ram’s embrace of Nishadraj and his respect for Mother Shabari, describing these examples as enduring lessons in compassion, love and social harmony.
Modi said the concept of Ram Rajya continues to represent good governance, justice, equal opportunities and a society free from discrimination.
Referring to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, he reiterated the vision of moving from ‘Ram’ to ‘Rashtra’ and from ‘Dev’ to ‘Desh’. He expressed confidence that this vision could be realised through unity of purpose and a shared commitment to the nation.
Vijayadashami, which symbolises the triumph of good over evil, provides an opportunity to renew the commitment to national solidarity, cultural pride and collective responsibility, the Prime Minister’s message emphasised.
