Veteran actresses Padmini Kolhapuri and Poonam Dhillon secured the highest number of votes in the CINTAA executive committee elections held on Tuesday, with actor Rakesh Bedi finishing third.
Padmini Kolhapuri received 604 votes, followed by Poonam Dhillon with 601 and Rakesh Bedi with 575. Other candidates and their vote counts were Kanwarjit Paintal (548), Chandraprakash Thakur (514), Abhay Bhaargava (439), Ghanshyam Shrivastav (395), Jaya Bhattacharya (392), Tina Ghai (374), Rajit Kapur (340), Sheeba Akashdeep (322), Ramesh Goyal (296), Jitendra Singh (284), Mohd Farooq Bandhukia (272) and Rohit Roy (268).
Following the election, Poonam Dhillon told IANS that ensuring newly elected members understood and followed the organisation’s constitution was among her key priorities.
“Everybody who gets elected should have a copy of the constitution and also know the constitution of CINTAA. That’s most important; they should know what the rules and regulations of CINTAA are. So that is one thing I introduce this time. I hope for years it continues that every member who comes in should get a copy and follow the constitution.”
She added, “And I had an oath-taking ceremony this time that you will follow the constitution, you will be fair, do welfare. So, I introduced these two things as a president.”
Dhillon also said around 670 members participated in the election, describing the turnout as encouraging given that voting took place during a festival holiday.
The elections come amid an ongoing dispute within the association. In August, 11 members of the 21-member executive committee resigned, alleging autocratic functioning within CINTAA. Some members, including Upasna Singh and Sahila Chadha, accused Padmini Kolhapuri and Poonam Dhillon of fund misappropriation and autocratic functioning.
Amid months of public discord, the Upasna Singh-led faction conducted fresh elections in September. In those polls, Upasna Singh and Sahila Chadha received the highest number of votes.
The September election was held after a court declined to stay the fresh polls ordered by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). However, the results of the September 12 election cannot be implemented until the next hearing, scheduled for October 26, 2026.
