Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday gave a brief response when asked about Rahul Gandhi’s latest foreign trip, saying he was not a “travel agent” and that everyone had their own reasons.
“I am not a travel agent,” Tharoor said, adding, “I am here now and mind you, everyone has their own reasons.”
Reporters questioned Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, the Kerala capital he represents in the Lok Sabha.
Rather than comment on the Congress leader’s travel plans, Tharoor distanced himself from the question, making it clear that he was not speaking on behalf of Rahul Gandhi.
His remark that “everyone has their own reasons” left the details of Gandhi’s trip unaddressed.
The exchange comes as Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, continues to draw political attention over his domestic and overseas visits. Such trips can become subjects of political debate, particularly when questions arise about the timing or priorities of the party leadership.
Tharoor’s response also drew attention to his own position within the Congress, as his public remarks are often closely scrutinised for indications of his relationship with the party leadership.
However, he offered no further explanation about Gandhi’s travel plans, leaving his brief remarks to speak for themselves.
