Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has warned people against fraudulent deepfake videos allegedly using her face and voice to promote investment schemes, particularly in real estate and other purported future ventures.
Her office issued a scam alert after AI-generated videos featuring the Congress leader surfaced and began circulating across WhatsApp, Instagram and other social media platforms.
“Fake videos using AI-generated images and voice of Smt Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ji is circulating on WhatsApp, Instagram and other social media platforms asking people to invest money,” her office said in an Instagram post.
“These are scams. Please do not click or invest,” it added.
The office urged people not to click on such posts or respond to requests made through the AI-generated videos. It also advised users to block the posts and report them to the appropriate authorities.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create convincing videos of public figures and celebrities. Such deepfakes can replicate a person’s appearance and voice and are increasingly being used by fraudsters to lend credibility to investment scams.
Deepfake videos allegedly featuring prominent business leaders have also surfaced in recent years, with scammers using manipulated footage to promote fraudulent investment opportunities and persuade people to transfer money.
Priyanka Gandhi’s office said it would take steps to address the misuse of her identity and urged people to remain cautious before acting on investment-related messages or videos appearing to feature her.
The advisory particularly cautioned users against giving consent to or engaging with requests contained in the fabricated videos, stressing that the content was not authorised by the Congress leader.
