Mayawati Attacks SP, Congress Over Blue Symbolism, Says It Cannot Erase Casteist Mindset

Lucknow, September 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday attacked the Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress and other opposition parties over their use of the colour blue, saying scarves, clothing and stage decorations in the colour cannot change what she described as their “casteist, narrow-minded, feudal and capitalist” mindset.

In a series of posts on X, Mayawati said parties claiming to champion the interests of Dalits, tribals, backward classes and other deprived sections should first change their “heart and mind” before projecting themselves as Ambedkarite forces.

She accused such parties of relying on symbolism while retaining an unchanged approach towards marginalised communities. Mayawati also targeted the SP’s PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) plank and Congress outreach efforts, alleging that the parties frequently change their positions “like a chameleon” for political advantage.

The BSP chief maintained that her party remains the only genuine Ambedkarite political force committed to protecting the interests of Bahujan communities.

Mayawati also criticised leaders expelled from the BSP, alleging that several had switched political parties repeatedly after being removed for indiscipline. She described such leaders as self-serving and opportunistic and alleged that some later formed small political outfits with the support of rival parties.

She questioned parties that inducted expelled BSP leaders, asking them to introspect before claiming to represent Bahujan interests.

In a veiled attack on the Congress, Mayawati described it as a “sinking ship” and questioned why anyone would risk their political future by joining the party. She also recalled Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s criticism of the Congress and his caution to Bahujan communities during his lifetime.

Mayawati further referred to senior BSP leader Ashok Siddharth’s retirement from active politics. She alleged that Siddharth did not immediately announce his retirement despite the party’s direction and eventually made the announcement the following morning after efforts to delay the decision failed.

She hinted that the BSP could disclose more details about the matter at an appropriate time and urged party workers and supporters to view the developments in the larger interest of the organisation and the Bahujan movement.
