Commissionerate Police Amritsar has busted an illegal arms supply network with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurmukh Singh, 27, of Chattiwind village in Amritsar Rural; Parasdeep Singh, 26, of Bhai Manjh Road in Amritsar; and Gurjant Singh, 24, of Jaur Singh Wala village in Tarn Taran.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based arms smuggler and were involved in supplying illegal weapons to criminal elements in the region.
Yadav said police were conducting further investigation to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network, identify other persons involved and verify the alleged foreign-based smuggling connection.
Sharing details of the operation, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said the police acted on specific intelligence inputs and arrested Gurmukh Singh and Parasdeep Singh. Two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that the weapons had been procured through Gurjant Singh. Based on their disclosures, Gurjant was subsequently nominated as an accused and arrested, the CP said.
A case, FIR No. 205 dated September 5, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar, under Sections 111 and 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act.
Police said further investigation is underway to uncover the wider illegal arms supply network.
