At least one civilian was allegedly killed and another reportedly forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security forces in separate incidents in Balochistan, according to local media and a regional rights organisation.
The Balochistan Post, citing family sources, reported that Pakistani forces allegedly killed Akbar Haider during a raid on his home in Turbat in Kech district and later detained his son Babar, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
According to the family, Haider saw several people climbing over the wall of his house during a raid on Monday night and mistook them for thieves. He reportedly fired into the air with his licensed pistol, following which the forces allegedly opened fire and struck him in the abdomen.
The family alleged that Haider suffered severe injuries and significant blood loss, while security personnel prevented him from being taken to hospital or receiving medical treatment. The forces reportedly left after searching the house and carrying out other operations. Haider subsequently died from excessive blood loss, the family said.
The following day, Pakistani forces allegedly detained Babar from Absar Football Ground and took him to an undisclosed location. His family said he had no involvement in any illegal activity and urged authorities to disclose his whereabouts and produce him before a court if there were any allegations against him.
Meanwhile, Paank, the Baloch National Movement’s human rights department, condemned the reported enforced disappearance of four Baloch men in separate incidents in Mastung, Quetta and Karachi in recent days.
The rights group identified those reported missing as 20-year-old Ali Baloch, 19-year-old Bakhtiyar Ahmed, 45-year-old Habib Ur Rehman Baloch and 25-year-old Zakir Razzak.
Paank alleged that the cases reflected the continued use of enforced disappearances against Baloch citizens and called for authorities to disclose the whereabouts of the four men and ensure their safe release.
It also urged Pakistan to investigate allegations of enforced disappearances, ensure accountability and provide victims and their families access to truth, justice and effective remedies.
