Lamine Yamal continued to underline his status as one of European football’s brightest young stars as Barcelona opened their UEFA Champions League 2026-27 campaign with a commanding 5-1 win over Feyenoord.
Yamal scored once and provided two assists, taking his Champions League goal contributions as a teenager to 23 — comprising 12 goals and 11 assists. The 19-year-old has now surpassed Kylian Mbappe’s previous record of 20 goal contributions before turning 20.
Paris Saint-Germain sit at the top of the 36-team league table after the opening matchweek, while Bayern Munich marked their campaign with a 5-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt.
The German giants also reached a major Champions League milestone, becoming only the second club to score 900 goals in the competition. Bayern’s tally now stands at 904, behind only Real Madrid’s 1,139.
Harry Kane continued his remarkable scoring streak by finding the net against Bodo/Glimt. The England international has now scored in eight consecutive Champions League appearances, joining Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy as the only players to achieve a run of at least eight successive matches with a goal.
Manchester United, returning to the Champions League after a two-year absence, began their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan debutants Sabah.
Despite the heavy defeat, Sabah created a unique piece of Champions League history by becoming the first team to field a starting XI featuring players from 11 different nationalities in their competition debut.
Real Madrid also began with a win, defeating Inter Milan 2-1, with Mbappe and Federico Valverde on the scoresheet. Mbappe’s goal moved him level with Raul Gonzalez as the joint fifth-highest scorer in Champions League history with 77 goals.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (140), Lionel Messi (129), Robert Lewandowski (109) and Karim Benzema (90) have scored more.
