Usha Stays Home With Newborn as Vance Rallies GOP Ahead of Midterms

Washington, September 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US Vice President J.D. Vance brought his family into the political spotlight as he invoked his wife Usha and their newborn son while defending the American family and urging Republican voters to deliver victories in the November midterm elections.

Addressing a Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Vance said Usha had declined an invitation to introduce him because she was caring for their six-week-old son, Alec, and their three other young children.

“In July, my beautiful Usha gave birth to a baby boy, little Alec, just six weeks ago,” Vance said.

He said organisers had approached Usha when their son was only two weeks old, but she declined, telling them she had four children to care for. Vance added that she was watching from home and sent her best wishes.

Vance used the personal account to reflect on what he described as the “birthright” of his youngest child, saying Alec was already a US citizen even though he was too young to understand it.

He also spoke about his four-year-old daughter, Mira, wanting to help feed her younger brother and the older children reacting to the newborn’s smiles. Vance praised Usha for what he described as remarkable patience in raising their four children.

The vice president also criticised Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, over remarks concerning Vance’s late grandfather and whether he would have accepted Usha.

Vance interpreted the comments as suggesting that his white grandfather could not have loved Usha because of her Indian heritage. He said El-Sayed had himself been raised by white step-grandparents and rejected what he portrayed as the suggestion that people with names such as James Vance could not love people with names such as Usha.

Usha Vance, the daughter of Indian immigrants, became the first Indian-American and first Hindu Second Lady of the United States when her husband assumed the vice presidency. The couple met at Yale Law School and have four children.

A lawyer, Usha has frequently accompanied Vance at major political events while generally maintaining a lower public profile.
